Invergordon Academy, Park Primary, South Lodge Primary, Newmore Primary and Milton Primary would all like to invite you and your family along to watch 2 virtual sessions aimed at sharing important information on internet safety and online gaming safety. In a world whereby the internet plays a vital role in all that we do we must also be aware of its dangers. The sessions will be available to watch through Microsoft Teams. A link for both meetings will sent out to all parents nearer the time. Please see below for the dates, times and for more information on both sessions:
Internet Safety Awareness Session – Wednesday 9th February @ 6pm – 7.30pm
This session will be looking at online safety and how this relates to young people of all ages as the online world continues to play an even bigger part in their everyday world. This session will look at some of the challenges and issues facing young people within social media and well-known (and some NOT so well-known) apps and find out what is happening across Highland Schools to help keep children as safe as possible. Robert Quigley, Online Safety Officer for Highland Council, will lead this session and will answer any questions that might arise.
Online Gaming Safety Session – Wednesday 16th February @ 6pm – 7pm
This session will look specifically at the world of Online Gaming and how this is now directly related to the wider online safety agenda. This session will explore some of the most commonly played games to identify some of the themes and challenges that these games present. There will also be a look at how many young people are struggling to avoid the temptation to spend large sums of money in order to ‘succeed’ in these games (Loot Boxes, Skins etc..) as well as looking at resources to keep children safe when playing games that involve chatting to others online. Once again, Robert Quigley, Online Safety Officer for Highland Council, will lead this session and will be on call to answer any questions you might have.
