As part of the approach for developing communication skills for the new Scottish curriculum, Literacy Hubs are being created in Primary and Secondary schools in areas across Highland.

A Literacy Hub is a media centre created within the school, run by staff and pupils. Partnerships with the National Union of Journalists and Radio Moray Firth have been set up to support IT and literacy skills in schools.

A group of five teachers at Invergordon Academy recently took part in a two day training course. They were taught how to use various pieces of radio equipment and were given the chance to put together their own radio show. The final editing process was a little rushed, resulting in a couple of items being out of place, but on the whole they were pleased with the results. S2 pupils will recieve media training (including interview skills, structuring a report and editing) in January.
