Ross Sutherland Vs Garioch (U16s)

Ross U16s thrash Garioch 83-7

It was a happy day for Ross Sutherland’s U16s last Sunday as they romped to an 83-7 win over Garioch.

There were 4 tries for winger Douglas Murray (Golspie HS) in the first minutes and 3 apiece for Angus Mohun (Tain RA) and Tom Bannerman (Invergordon Academy) as a weakened Garioch side succumbed to Ross Sutherland pressure. But it was stand-off Fergus Dobson (Plockton HS) who ended the match as top scorer, with 9 conversions and a try giving him 23 points.
With Garioch having travelled with only 14 players and losing another to injury early on in the first half, the four players loaned from Ross Sutherland were a welcome boost. But despite these additions it was all over as a contest by half time.
Tries from Murray (3), Bannerman (2), Tyler Bleau (Invergordon Academy) and Jonnie MacAskill (Plockton HS) and 5 conversions from Dobson gave Ross a 45-0 lead at half time.
To their credit, Garioch kept at it in the second half competing as best they could, and their moment of respite came with only minutes left to play as one of the players borrowed from Ross scored under the post. By that stage they were 64 points adrift after Ross Sutherland added tries from Dobson, Mohun (2), and Bannerman, and another 3 conversions from Dobson to their first half tally.
Straight from the restart Ross attacked and Mohun gladly accepted the pass that gave him his hat-trick. Murray added his fourth a minute later and Dobson completed the rout with his ninth conversion.
Final score: Ross Sutherland 83 – 7 Garioch.
