Welcome to the Design Technology Department. Learning in the technologies provides a strong foundation for the development of skills and knowledge which are, and will continue to be, essential in maintaining Scotland’s economic prosperity.

In Design Technology pupils develop knowledge and skills in Design, Manufacture and Graphic Techniques and the impact of new technologies.

They use computer software to improve design ideas, research the impact of new technologies and develop skills in making, presenting and justifying their ideas. Pupils are also able to make sense of the design process and appreciate the diversity of people and processes involved in producing products. The problem solving and higher order thinking skills that pupils develop in designing innovative products will be transferable to any problem solving context.

Pupils will continue to improve skills within their broad general education, as well as develop more specialised skills that will equip them to embark on National qualifications.
